Men's Health Month starts today!

Hi Reader!

June is Men's Health Month; an entire month dedicated to help the men and boys in our lives be proactive in their health. Is a whole month necessary to have such a focus on men's health? ABSOLUTELY!

For starters, men are less likely to seek medical attention, have lower life expectancies than women, and tend to engage in more risk-taking behaviors such as smoking and drinking.

Steps you can take to improve the quality and length of your life

  • Eat a varied diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains.
  • Moderate exercise for 30 minutes five times per week, or vigorous exercise for 20 minutes three times per week.
  • Protect yourself from the sun.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Drink water everyday.
  • Limit alcohol to two drinks per day or less.
  • Don't smoke, and minimize your exposure to second-hand smoke.
  • See your doctor regularly.
  • Know your family history and discuss it with your doctor.
  • If you are over 40, get a baseline PSA (prostate specific antigen test) and monitor this periodically with your doctor.
  • Practice safe sex.
  • Wear a seatbelt when you are in the car, or wear a helmet when on a motorcycle or bicycle.
  • Practice stress management.
  • Get help if you need it.

This Men's Health Month, take charge of your health and encourage the men in your life to make changes for the better. You can check out this guide on the Men's Health Network for more information regarding men's health: https://www.blueprintformenshealth.com/

Before the year officially turns, I want to give you a moment to pause. Not to judge how the year went. Not to replay everything you “should’ve” done. Just to notice what this year showed you about your health, especially your heart. For a lot of clients I work with, this year came with a wake-up call.A diagnosis. A procedure. A close call. Or just the quiet realization that things feel harder than they should. If that’s you, I want you to hear this clearly: You don’t have to figure this out...

the sandlot GIF Remember when Mondays meant going to play outside after school until the streetlights came on? When your high school football team made it to playoffs, and you could still remember how you felt stepping onto that field? Or how about when your recreational softball league managed to have one of the worst records of the season, and yet you still championed each other to keep on trying? It's being part of a team; practicing and playing for a mission that is greater than yourself....

13 beach chairs lined up, side by side, on the beach that we've been vacationing on since my twin sister and I were 9 months old. And here we were, returning for our 40th birthday. Long Beach Island, NJ. The place where my Pop-Pop staked his claims to the Murphy family's vacation spot. Where he vowed to bring us all together to spend at least one week out of the year together. My Pop-Pop ❤️ No matter what life looked or felt like during the year, somehow, it always felt more joyous and...
