What are you waiting for?! Here's your sign 🚧

Reader, it is time.

Time to schedule those appointments you've been putting off. Time to get that shoulder checked out after your slip on the icy driveway last winter. Time to add more of a vegetable to your plate than the garnish of parsley accompanying your steak.

It's time to make the time to live a healthier life. Here is a list of Pros and Cons for engaging in your own health care, getting screened, and following up on those appointment.

Pros

  1. Taking action to lower cholesterol LDL, and Triglyceride levels.
  2. Reducing risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
  3. Reducing amount of medications needed.
  4. Checking that the inner pipes are clean and functioning properly (aka going for your colonoscopy if you're due!)
  5. Reducing anxiety and depression by talking with someone.
  6. Finding the cause of pain.
  7. Catching something early through an annual physical or health screening.
  8. More energy!
  9. Treating underlying issues such as poor sleep or frequent urination.
  10. Improved quality of life

Cons

  1. Cost - perhaps higher co-pays, deductibles, or treatments.
  2. See number 1.
  3. See number 2.
  4. Are you starting to see a pattern?! FYI, the pros outweigh the cons.

I want you to experience all of the PROS of being active in your health care. Let's focus on this for the month of June. Break it down into 1 week, 1 day, and 1 task at a time. I'm rooting for you Reader! Let's do this!

the sandlot GIF Remember when Mondays meant going to play outside after school until the streetlights came on? When your high school football team made it to playoffs, and you could still remember how you felt stepping onto that field? Or how about when your recreational softball league managed to have one of the worst records of the season, and yet you still championed each other to keep on trying? It's being part of a team; practicing and playing for a mission that is greater than yourself....

13 beach chairs lined up, side by side, on the beach that we've been vacationing on since my twin sister and I were 9 months old. And here we were, returning for our 40th birthday. Long Beach Island, NJ. The place where my Pop-Pop staked his claims to the Murphy family's vacation spot. Where he vowed to bring us all together to spend at least one week out of the year together. My Pop-Pop ❀️ No matter what life looked or felt like during the year, somehow, it always felt more joyous and...

As the unofficial end of summer draws near, it's the perfect time to make the time for a day trip or vacation. If you have a heart condition or were recently diagnosed with a high cholesterol, those carefree trips you once took may feel like you now have to proceed with caution. Will the boardwalk fries trigger a heart attack? Can I choose a better option at my favorite restaurant or is it best if I avoid it all together? What if I choose the wrong food? Here's the thing, Reader Just because...
